Introduction

The different shapes made of high quality clay to cover the surface of a building are called tiles. Tiles are also made of ordinary clay and china clay. Tiles are used to cover the roof and cover the surface of the walls.

Properties Of Good Tile

·         Good tiles have the following qualities.

·         The shape and size of the tiles should be uniform.

·         The color of the tile should be the same.

·         The collision of two tiles should produce a like sarcastic voice .

·         The tile should be strong and durable.

·         Must be well burnt

·         Tiles should be resistant to climatic effects and acidic effects.

·         If the tile is slightly damaged, the broken surface should appear smooth

Types Of Tiles

 There are three main types according to use:

1.      Drain Tile

2.      Floor Tile

3.      Roof Tile

Drain Tiles

This type of tile is circular, Semicircular  or Elliptical . These tiles are used to carry irrigation water or rain water. Their work is like a pipe. Drain tiles can be installed either on the interior perimeter of the foundation or along the exterior as a house is being built.

Floor Tiles

These tiles are flat. There shape are rectangular, square or polygonal. The thickness of these tiles ranges from 12 mm to 50 mm. While their size is 15cm x 15cm to 30cm x 30 cm. These tiles are used to cover floor and wall surfaces. The surface of these tiles is made glazed  if used for water level. As the tiles used in the bathroom are glazed  . There are different types of tiles according to materials, some of which are as follows

Roof Tiles

These tiles are made to cover sloping roofs so that water cannot enter the rooms. These tiles are not made glazed .These tiles are made of many shapes with different regional names. They have been used since ancient times and are still very popular today. Earlier tiles were used only in mountainous areas but nowadays they are also gaining popularity in the plains.
